b) The Course

In this course we will focus on the memory of the impossible in Latin-American Literature and in an attempt to define a Latin-American impossibilia. Different processes attacking the world of words have played an important role in the Twentieth Century in Latin America.. We will focus on broken narratives, beginnings that immediately tumble, silences, and un-narratives.

c) Marking Scheme

Multiple Choice I = 50

Multiple Choice II = 50

Essay (8 pages) DUE APRIL 9 = 150

In class participation and presentations = 50

Total =300/3=100 (- number of absences)

Each absence results in a one-point deduction from the Final Grade for the term. Minimum attendance requirement to pass the course: 17 classes out of 23.

d) Participation

All members of the class are encouraged to participate actively in class discussions and debates. Such participation is an important part of your performance. Please come to class with written notes, your questions and thoughts about the possible meanings of the texts your have read. What strikes you? What paragraphs or points seem to you to be the most significant or enigmatic? Why? Students will be asked to read these notes and make very short (5 minutes) presentations on the spot and these will count as an important part of their participation mark.
